Ashley Desmond has been teaching violin since she was a teenager in high school. She began her violin studies a little bit later than some (at the age of 11) and advanced quickly in the Suzuki Method a couple of years later under Esther Larsen. After moving quickly through the Suzuki repertoire she began studies with Jack Ashton of the Utah Symphony. When it came time for high school graduation it was not difficult for her to decide what she wanted to study in college! She attended the University of Utah School of Music from 2002-2006 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in violin performance. While attending the University of Utah she studied with Lynnette Stewart of the Utah Symphony. She was also priveleged to study chamber music with Mikhail Boguslavsky and pedagogue with Hasse Borrup, and she thoroughly enjoyed her 4 years playing with the Utah Philharmonia under conductor Robert Baldwin.
Now that she has her own little family, she enjoys teaching privately from her home in West Valley City. Her studio is growing and she looks forward to certifying as a Suzuki teacher this summer at the Intermountain Suzuki String Institue. Her other interests include piano, reading, picking a little at the guitar, outdoors, vacationing, and spending as much time as she can with her daughter and husband!
