About Teacher

Scott Tanner began playing the violin at the young age of 4 years old. His first teacher was Gwen Runyon of Fort Worth, Texas and his life since then has been filled with very memorable and wonderful violin teachers. Having grown up in the Talent Education Method and school orchestra programs, Mr. Tanner has learned the value of music education in his personal life and has experienced first-hand the benefits of music development for the mind, body and soul.

A graduate from Weber State University with a B.A. in Music Education, he participated in their symphoy and chamber groups as well as having particpated twice as a soloist. He then attended Western Illinois University earning a M.A in Violin Performance with emphasis in Suzuki Pedagogy. Prior to attending WIU, he completed the Suzuki Training for Volumes 1 thru 4 with various teahers  and then went thru the trainings again for Suzuki Volumes 1 thru 8 with teacher-trainer, Nancy Jackson.

Mr. Tanner has operated a violin studio in Utah for 30+ years and has touched the lives of countless number of students from across the state. While teaching at Dixie State University as Orchestra Director and upper strings private lesson instructor, he created the violin performing and travelling group Strings of Dixie, now under the direction of viiolinist, Kristen Palmer.

Outside of teaching privately, Mr. Tanner has been involved in the Utah Education progrmas by having taught everything from choir and band to beginning and advanced chamber groups. Most recently he was employed as the Director of Orchestras for the Treasure Mtn. Jr High and Park City High School orchestra programs within the Park City School District.

Throughout the years, Mr. Tanner has taken numerous classes from well-known Suzuki teachers, such as Barbara Barber, Kathy Lee, William Starr, John Kendall and countless others. Former long-term private violin teachers include Gwen Runyon,, Jannette Bjorik, June Crosby, She-Hwa Wang, Nancy Jackson, Gabriel Pegis and Monte Belknap.
