About Teacher

*Suzuki Teacher Training: Violin Books 1-8 *BA in Violin Performance at Utah State University *Elementary school music teacher (2 years) *14 years of private teaching experience TEACHING EXPERIENCE Teaching is my greatest passion! I have been teaching private violin lessons for fourteen years. I am also a private art teacher and an elementary music teacher. I love learning and refining my teaching skills, so I enroll in Suzuki teacher training workshops every year. STUDIES I began my Suzuki studies with Natalie Rayback and Ramona Stirling. I went on to study with Natalie Reed, a student of the legendary Josef Gingold. I fell in love with chamber music at ISSIís Chamber Days with the Fry Street Quartet. I pursued this passion of chamber music as concert master of Jack Ashtonís Young Artist Chamber Players, and eventually followed the Fry Street Quartet to Utah State University. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Violin Performance at USU, where I studied with Robert Waters. MUSIC THEORY I love music theory! I was an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow for several professors and classes, including Fundamentals of Music Theory, Music Theory I, Music Theory II, and Music Theory III. This involved designing music theory lesson plans for all levels, grading advanced music theory exams and papers, and tutoring students privately. I had the chance to teach in tandem with music theory professors whose primary focus was pedagogy research. This greatly refined my understanding of music theory and my teaching methods. CHAMBER MUSIC I love chamber music! I worked as a coach for the Chamber Music Society of Logan. I also had the privilege of being the first violinist for the USU Caine Quartet my senior year of college. We did outreach programs with Cache Valley Elementary Schools. One focus of this outreach was creating music workshops for special education classes. ELEMENTARY MUSIC As part of my degree, I chose to study Elementary Music Education with Jill Delvilbiss. I taught music for kindergarten through fifth grade at Wilson Elementary for two years. This gave me the opportunity to receive additional training in Elementary Music Education and a wealth of experience working with elementary students and developing age appropriate music curriculum. COMMUNITY During my time in Cache Valley, I volunteered as a group instructor for the Young Musicians of St. Thomas Aquinas, a sister group to El Sistema. I worked closely with Dr. Sergio Bernal (conductor of the USU Symphony Orchestra) to provide free music instruction to underprivileged children that normally would not be able to afford lessons.
