About Teacher

Kara Southwick Allen started playing the piano at age three, taught by her mother, Norene Southwick, who was among the first Suzuki teachers in Utah. She began playing the flute at age eleven and enjoyed being in many bands and symphonies through high school and college. Her love of music and conducting took her to Brigham Young University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. She decided to put her new teaching skills to use as a private piano instructor. She has been teaching Suzuki Piano since 2001, is an active member of the Suzuki Association of Utah. She has especially enjoyed the training and mentoring received by Elaine Worley and Karlyn Brett. She has been a part of the Oregon Suzuki Piano Institute Piano Faculty and is a Music Director for Bluffdale City Arts. She lives in Bluffdale, Utah with her amazing husband and six beautiful children, all of whom play the piano.
