About Teacher

With her MEd and BA in English from the University of Utah, Kirsten began her public school teaching orchestra in Jordan School District at Bingham Middle School. She has taught in Washington County School District for the past 29 years, beginning with Pine View Middle and High Schools. She currently teaches elementary through 7th grade at Sunrise Ridge Intermediate, and 8th-12th grade at Desert Hills Middle and Desert Hills High School. She is married to Ed Candland, retired orchestra and band director and owner of Ed Candland Bow Rehair.  She has a deep belief in the quality of teachers and experiences the Suzuki method provides. She gets the opportunity to host the annual Suzuki Graduation Recital in the Saint George Tabernacle, and she and her husband, Ed, (Suzuki bass teacher) host the orchestra portion of the annual Southern Utah Strings Festival.  Together they direct Zion Youth Symphony Orchestra.  She is serving on the board of the Utah chapter of the American String Teachers Association and enjoys membership in the Utah Music Educators Association.  Being an All-State Orchestra member and having toured with the Rocky Mountain Youth Camerata, Mormom Youth Symphony, Utah Valley Youth Symphony, and school orchestras, she has enjoyed watching students of her own thrive in the rich life experiences musical study offers. She knows the Suzuki method brings the best musicians with the best hearts together from around the world. She has studied with John Chatelain, Lynnette Stewart, Lawrence Sardoni, and Dennis Hansen.
