About Teacher

<p>I've played violin for over 20 years and taught for over 10 years. My mentors and teachers include Emma Rubinstein (2007-2010), Dr. Dallin Hansen (2010) and Alexander Woods at Brigham Young University (2013-2015). In the summer of 2008 I attended Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina where I studied with William Preucil and learned from visiting artist Yo Yo Ma. In April of 2015, I received a BMA in Violin Performance from Brigham Young University. I currently perform in the Orchestra at Temple Square, the Canyons String Quartet and the Utah Baroque Players. I have had over ten years of experience teaching violin to students of all ages and levels, including music minors at Brigham Young University. I also taught music theory at BYU-Idaho in 2008-2009. In 2014 I received a grant through Brigham Young University to write a string method book titled Baroque Playing for the Modern String Player. For the past three years I have coached teenagers in chamber music at Mountains and Strings summer camp in Idaho. These and other experiences have left me confident and comfortable with my ability to instruct, motivate, and guide my students. My older students play in the top school orchestras and youth symphonies. In 2016 I had three students serving as concertmasters for various orchestras and in 2017 one of my students won the concerto competition for the Utah Valley Youth Symphony. My philosophy is that children thrive best in warm and safe environments. I don't promote competition within the studio and strive to help each student achieve their best by reaching intrinsic motivation and true love for music. Ultimately my goal is to produce responsible, confident individuals who are life-long players and lovers of great music!</p>
