About Teacher

I love music, especially playing the piano and singing.  My experiences with music have enriched my life and opened my heart to connections with my emotions, nature, family, self confidence and creativity.  I am excited to share what I can with willing students and am interested in giving to others the unique worldview that music education offers.  I utilize Suzuki repertoire and many Suzuki methods but also teach sight reading and introduction to chord theory.

“If children hear fine music from the day of their birth, and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”  - Shin’ichi Suzuki

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” - Aristotle

Just a bit about me . . . I began playing piano when I was 4 years old, first learning from my mother on a 1902 former church piano with chips on nearly every key.  I was fortunate to have private piano lessons until I was 18 years old.  I switched to voice lessons for a few years before getting married.  I have long been fascinated with the way people learn and I studied education in college.  I live in Cache Valley, Utah with my husband and three children.  I enjoy cooking, reading, and being with my family inside, outside, or upside down.

Experience

This two-day interactive workshop was filled with practical information and teaching tips for today’s music teachers. Developed by internationally renowned Suzuki Piano teacher trainer Merlin B. Thompson, topics for exploration included: how times have changed, research into how people learn, psychology and philosophy of teaching, the function of curriculum models, strategies for reflective teaching, and more.

This was an independent study course with both teacher and parent mentors.  Key principles included; getting kids to practice, pacing pieces, basics of arranging recitals, and nurturing the teacher-student relationship.
